The Historic and Classic Car Hirers' Guild
A Perfect Present
Renting a classic car from Summer Wine Classics is a fabulous way to mark a significant birthday, anniversary or event and an exciting and different way for couples to share special time together. It is a thoughtful and unusual gift in itself and combining classic car hire with a stay at Ash House creates the basis of a wonderful mini-break.

What better way to explore the beautiful Holme Valley and the picturesque Peak District and pennine countryside nearby than from behind the wheel of a classic motor car? Whether it's to mark a special day or to realise a long-held ambition, classic car rental makes for a day out or a super short holiday with a difference.

Personalised gift vouchers are available so the lucky recipient can book the car at their convenience and we are happy to work closely with customers planning to surprise someone on the day. The car of your choice can be ready on the drive when you arrive or hidden away and revealed at the last moment. Just make sure you bring the necessary documentation for the driver (see FAQ).

Ash House overlooks fields and countryside but is just ten minutes' walk from the town centre. We are pleased to be able to recommend several excellent restaurants in Holmfirth for evening meals and we make advance bookings for you if required. If you are planning to rent a classic car from us as a surprise gift for a loved one, what better way to break the news than over dinner the evening before the hire?

In the kitchen at Ash House Loretta cooks fabulous breakfasts in the Aga and prepares picnic hampers for lunches. Both are made up from quality local ingredients. The accommodation in the suite features its own large lounge/dining room and there is a large collection of car and motorcycle books which guests are welcome to dip into during their stay.

The self drive fleet is made up of several iconic British motor cars from the 1960s and 1970s including sensational Jaguars, a beautiful Rolls Royce and a stately Rover.

Since we started our business in 2005 our classic cars have made a lot of people very happy. And although a love of cars tends to be a 'man thing' and a day in one of our special vehicles is often a very well received gift for a father or husband, classic car hire can appeal to women too and it's a wonderful thing for couples to do together. It costs just £20 to add a second driver to the insurance for the day and a mini-break with us here at Ash House is a great way for both partners to relax and get away from it all.

Our Cars

Loretta's favourite car is our silver Jaguar Mark Two. This is the Jaguar model made extra famous by the television series Inspector Morse and is undoubtedly one of the most handsome cars of all time. The interior of our 1964 car is sumptuous with blue leather seats and polished walnut trim. Certainly a special place in which to sit and enjoy the spectacular countryside in the Peak District National Park just minutes away from Ash House.

The Jaguar E-Type created such a stir when it was launched Jaguar's order books were full for years and the Daily Mail dubbed the slinky new cat 'The Most Wanted Car In The World'. Even now it is considered by many experts and enthusiasts to be the most beautiful car of all time. Why not get behind the wood rimmed steering wheel of our 1969 Jaguar E-Type and explore the highways and byways of pennine Yorkshire and beyond.

The Rolls Royce Silver Shadow II is a large and imposing car but is effortlessly elegant and beautiful at the same time. This sophisticated saloon has top grade black hide upholstery, deep pile carpets and luxurious lambswool rugs. Whether driving it or being driven, riding in Summer Wine Classics' Georgian silver Rolls Royce is a wonderful way to travel. What about gliding down to Chatsworth for a picnic in the grounds or a light lunch at the carriage house restaurant.

Richard's favourite car is our 1962 Rover 100. This car was designed in the 1950s and travelling in this delightful dove grey saloon is a journey back in time to that post war decade. Throughout the 1950s and early '60s these Rovers were popular with Britain's bank managers and other professional types. And if Captain Mainwaring from the popular BBC sitcom Dad's Army continued driving long enough after the war we feel sure he will have had one!
