How do I make a booking?
Call us on 01484 688244 or 07974 410568 to check availability and discuss your requirements or send an e-mail or completed on-line enquiry form and we will contact you as soon as possible.

How much deposit is required when booking a car?
Payment in full or a non-refundable 25% deposit is required to secure the booking. Payment can be made over the phone with a debit or credit card or by cheque. Full payment must be received at least a fortnight before the commencement of the hire period. A security deposit pre-authorisation must be made on a credit card on collection of the car at the start of the hire period.

Can I make a provisional booking?
We will hold a car for a few days to allow you to check dates and make arrangements (we will contact you during this period should anyone else express an interest in the car) and will allow time for a deposit cheque to arrive and clear.

What happens if I have to cancel?
In the event of a cancellation made up to a fortnight before the commencement of the hire period, we will issue a credit voucher of equivalent value to the amount paid (deposit or full hire amount) redeemable against vehicle hire on another date. Vouchers are valid for 12 months.

What is the reason for the security deposit?
We expect our cars to be returned to us in the same condition they leave us at the start of each hire. A security deposit, which is equivalent to the insurance excess, is secured on the day of hire in the form of a credit card pre-authorisation. This practice is common to all classic and general car hire companies.

No funds are actually taken unless the hirer causes damage to the car, cannot refuel the car or receives any speeding fines, in which case the cost will be taken from the cardholder. This includes mechanical damage brought about by abuse or misuse but does not include stone chips and other examples of unavoidable wear and tear. We do not normally accept bookings from anyone who does not have a credit card which can be used for this purpose.

How does the insurance work?
Our rates include fully comprehensive cover for one driver. An additional driver can be added for £20 a day. All drivers have to meet the criteria of our insurance company.

What are the driver restrictions?
Essentially, drivers should be aged 25 to 70 years, be in good health, have not had more than one accident in the last 3 years and have no more than six points on their driver's licence. They should normally have held a full British driver's licence for at least 5 years although we do welcome and cater for overseas hirers (please e-mail or call for details). In special circumstances Summer Wine Classic Car Hire Ltd can approach the insurer to discuss an extension of cover. If you have received any serious motoring convictions in the past you should discuss this when making a booking. Please see our standard Terms and Conditions for more information.

What if I do not hold a UK driving licence?
We can accept EU and US drivers' licences and drivers with International Driving Permits.

What do I need to bring with me on the day?
All drivers need to bring their driving licences (both the photo ID card and paper document in the case of two part licences) and a secondary proof of address such as a bank statement or utility bill. Finally, someone in the party must bring a credit card on which to secure the security deposit.

What constitutes a day's hire?
A day's hire is from 9am to 8pm. Hires of more than one day qualify for improved rates. Please see our tariffs for further information.

Is there a mileage limit?
There is a generous mileage limit of 200 miles per day.

Can I take the car abroad?
No, the insurance is only valid in the UK but please enquire if you are planning an overseas trip as an extension of cover can sometimes be arranged.

Will I have an opportunity to familiarise myself with the car?
Yes, you will take the car on a test run to make sure you are completely comfortable with the vehicle and fully familiar with its controls before you set off.

Will the car be checked over before I take it out?
Before going out on hire the cars receive a thorough pre-hire safety check and they are washed, polished and vacuumed.

Do the cars run on unleaded fuel?
All the cars run on unleaded fuel. The cars go out with a full tank of petrol and we ask for them to be returned in the same state. If you are unable to refill the car we will do it and charge the fuel to your payment card. There are three filling stations close to us here in Holmfirth.

What happens if the car breaks down?
All cars are covered for breakdown and recovery by the RAC and IK Classics. If a car cannot be repaired it will be brought back to base and if possible we will replace the car with an equivalent vehicle or upgrade you.

What if I'm worried about something during the hire period?
When you pick up the car, we will provide you with our mobile telephone numbers, together with contact numbers for IK Classics and the RAC. We ask that you do not hesitate to call if there is anything at all about the car that concerns you.

Where can we leave our everyday car?
You can leave the car on our premises or, for a small charge, it can be left in secure storage at IK Classics. If required, IK Classics can carry out servicing and repair work or valet it for you while it is there.

Can we come to collect the car by rail?
Yes and we will collect you from Huddersfield or Wakefield railway stations and bring you to Ash House. There is a small charge for pick ups from Wakefield.

How do the gift vouchers work?
Vouchers are ideal when buying classic car hire as a gift. We can provide a personalised custom designed voucher depicting the car to be hired which can be e-mailed or posted to the buyer to give to the recipient. Gift vouchers can be for car hire on a specific date or left open for the person receiving it to redeem at their convenience. Bed and breakfast accommodation and picnic hampers can be included. Fixed price non-specific vouchers are also available so the recipient can choose their own car. Vouchers are valid for 12 months from the date of issue.

Can I hire the car and drive it myself for a wedding or other special occasion?
Yes, but please do not decorate it in any way other than with ribbons or subject it to attack by crazy foam or other products that might damage the paint or chrome. We can supply ribbons and bows at cost and advise about fixing them to the car.

Can you supply a chauffeur for a wedding or other special occasion?
Yes, please contact us by phone or e-mail to discuss your requirements or complete the on-line enquiry form.

Are the cars on the website and in your brochures the actual cars for hire?
Yes, all pictures on this website and in our promotional literature are of the actual cars that are available to hire.

Are the cars on your website and in your brochures the only ones you have?
We try to keep the site and our literature up to date but we are always on the lookout for suitable vehicles to add to our fleet so please ask.

Can you provide routes and itineraries for our holiday?
We can supply maps and are happy to suggest routes and destinations and give recommendations according to your needs.

Can you recommend any hotels for onward bookings?
There are many good hotels in the area and we are happy to make recommendations. Alternatively, visit the tourist authority websites accessible from this site.

What sort of picnics and packed lunches do you provide?
We offer a picnic hamper service made up from local produce. Please see the tariffs page on this website for more details.
