When Britain's most highly esteemed motor car manufacturer began producing civilian vehicles once again in 1946, after several years dedicated to the war effort, it was felt that being seen to be stupendously rich in times of austerity, was perhaps not the done thing. The firm had acquired the famous Bentley name in 1931 and so Rolls Royce marketed its new model as the Bentley Mk VI.

In the immediate post war years, the Mark Six was undoubtedly Britain's finest and most prestigious motor car. Built on a solid chassis and powered by silky smooth six cylinder Rolls Royce engines, Bentleys were assembled by craftsmen at the Rolls Royce factory in Crewe and offered unrivalled quality and comfort.

First registered in May 1950, our charmingly original Bentley Mk6 was originally supplied by Joseph Cockshoot of Manchester and cost Mr E O Ainsworth of Prestbury £3,316.11s. 8d including Purchase Tax. Nearly twice the price of a semi-detached house at the time!

The car was later owned by many years by an Exeter doctor who looked after the car fastidiously and kept detailed service records which have survived to this day. More recently it has been enthusiast-owned and carefully looked after.
