In the immediate post war years, the Bentley Mark Six was Britain's finest and most prestigious car and its successor, the bigger booted R Type, was equally superlative. Built on a solid chassis and powered by silky smooth six cylinder Rolls Royce engines, the cars were assembled by craftsmen at the Rolls Royce factory in Crewe and offered unrivalled quality and comfort.
During 2009 we were approached by Huddersfield businessman Richard Senior who suggested buying a classic saloon car to add to the Summer Wine Classics stable. This splendid Bentley R Type is the result. Originally supplied by Glovers of Ripon to Yorkshire industrialist Sir Leslie Laycock, this charming 1953 Bentley R Type has remained in the county for most of its life, although, like our own Rolls Royce Silver Cloud, the car spent some time in the USA in the 1980s.
Since Richard purchased the Bentley in June 2009, it has been comprehensively
overhauled by Ian Kellett and his team at IK Classics and Racing
Services, the interior has benefited from new carpets and the original
red leather seats have been expertly refurbished. Additionally,
the car's new owner has spent a great many hours cleaning and polishing
to bring it back to its former glory. Richard has enjoyed owning
several classic cars over the years, but this charming Bentley has
quickly won a significant place in his affections! So much so that
together with his wife Janice, Richard has now started his own wedding
car business, GSP Classic
Wedding Cars.
A truly magnificent car, yet somehow understated, this handsome Bentley is already proving a popular addition to the Summer Wine Classics fleet. Please contact us for further details.
