Launched at the Motor Show in October 1948, the Jaguar Mk V was manufactured for just three years and only 1,661 2.5 litre saloons were made. Most were exported and only a handful survive.

Styling-wise the Mark 5 was a development of the classic flowing shape of pre-war Jaguars, but modernised with its large headlamps built into the sweeping front wings. Although traditional in appearance (it was the last Jaguar to be made with a side opening bonnet) it boasted a modern chassis and up-to-date suspension and brakes, making it pleasant to drive, even today.

Thoroughly British, the car has elegant flowing lines with running boards and spats covering the rear wheels. And the interior has a delightful old world quality of restrained good taste. Stylish art deco instruments are lit by a violet glow, the dashboard and door cappings are in solid walnut and the upholstery is finished in unpleated leather. A steel sunshine roof is a standard factory fitment.

Manufactured in Coventry on 24 February 1950, KOF 813 was registered in Birmingham the following month and the car was in regular use in the midlands until 1967 whereupon it fell into disrepair. Purchased by an enthusiast in Surrey in 1985 it was gradually restored to its former glory over the next ten years and was exhibited at shows. Following a three year period in storage the car made the journey north to join us in 2008. Now, following an extensive programme of recommissioning work involving the clutch, gearbox and cooling system, this marvellous old car is once again in tip-top condition.
