Introduced in 1955, the Rolls Royce Silver Cloud was of a time when Britain was finally getting back on its feet following the Second World War. A time when after many years of austerity, it was once more socially acceptable to spend money on items of style and luxury. The Silver Cloud was perceived to be the best car in the world and the aristocracy and famous stars of the time queued up to buy them.
Of massive size but somehow still managing to be effortlessly beautiful and elegant, the Silver Cloud is a hugely imposing and impressive motor car. Wonderful to be driven in, it has a luxurious and spacious interior that can accommodate huge wedding gowns with ease. And the leather upholstery and walnut fittings make the inside of this motor car a very special place indeed.
Summer Wine Classics' 1957 black over gold Silver Cloud joined the fleet at the end of 2008. The car is in excellent condition and drives superbly, having been enthusiast owned for the last nine years and used to tour all over Europe during that time.
We are still researching the early history of this grand old car but so far we have found out it was supplied new to H & E Halford Ltd of Birmingham before being sold to Mr Lionel Simmons of London in 1959. After many years of ownership by the Simmons family the car was exported to the USA in the 1980s. Then, reimported to the UK in 1999, the car was reunited with its original registration number.
This is a truly spectacular wedding car of great style and presence. We are privileged to own it and pleased to supply it. A stunning classic luxury saloon car.
